Biography
Roland Wegerer (born 1974 in Amstetten, Austria) is a contemporary artist based in Linz whose practice spans media art, photography, sculpture, and performance. His work explores how movement, language, voice, and technology shape human perception and communication. By isolating human and object motion, Wegerer reveals the interplay between motion, sound, humor, awkwardness, and vulnerability, creating visual sequences that question meaning in a constantly shifting world.
He critically examines the ambiguities of language, transforming verbal communication into ornamental visual forms. Integrating scientific and economic insights, Wegerer challenges romantic notions of artistic genius through structured creative rules that function as liberating constraints.
In addition to his artistic practice, Wegerer works as a teacher at a secondary school in Linz, where he continues his artistic investigations, experiments, and conceptual studies within a social and pedagogical environment. Since 2024, he has been enrolled in the teacher qualification program (Hochschullehrgang) at the University College of Education Upper Austria (PH OÖ), which he will complete in 2026, formalizing his professional transition into teaching. Teaching & Research
Wegerer’s work extends into artistic research, creative methodology, and idea coaching, connecting artistic processes with scientific and economic frameworks.
He teaches media art, photography, design, digital literacy, and interdisciplinary creativity. Since several years, he works as a teacher at a secondary school in Linz, where he continues his artistic investigations, experiments, and conceptual studies within a social and pedagogical environment.
In 2014, he taught a two‑semester university course titled “Videoperformance” at the University of Art and Design Linz.
He has completed the teacher qualification program (Hochschullehrgang) at the University College of Education Upper Austria (PH OÖ) from 2024 to 2026, supporting his professional transition into the Austrian school system.
