This collection utilizes digital photography and is realized as C-Prints in various dimensions, 2018.
What sets this series apart is Wegerer’s experimental approach, combining long-term exposures—ranging from 2 to 6 seconds—with a precise bodily choreography performed by the artist in snowy landscapes. Rather than static documentation, these images embody a time-based impression of rapidly moving one’s head while immersed in a winter landscape, resulting in captivating visuals that echo the qualities of gestural painting.
Through this method, the artist transcends conventional landscape photography by creating works that visually translate the blurring and intensity of movement and perception within the wintry environment. The images reveal dynamic streaks, layers, and fluid forms reminiscent of brushstrokes, emphasizing the passage of time and physical engagement with nature. None of the effects are achieved through digital post-processing or Photoshop—the painterly qualities arise purely from in-camera technique and artistic control during exposure.
Roland Wegerer’s Burning Lens – Snow Edition invites viewers to contemplate both the external conditions of winter and the subjective sensation of movement within it, fusing the boundaries between photography and painting.
