“Obsctacles” is a video performance that redefines the interaction between the human body and space. Everyday studio furnishings are transformed into sculptural obstacles, serving not merely as background elements but as central actors within the performance. Through this act of creative transformation, Wegerer challenges conventional perceptions of ordinary objects, raising them to the level of art and inviting the audience to reconsider their role in both studio practice and daily life.
This performative approach merges live action with elements of photography, video, and sound, characteristic of Roland Wegerer’s multidisciplinary media art. His work engages deeply with questions of human existence and its (im)possibilities, using the human body as a primary tool of exploration.
One of the performance’s hallmarks is its experimental, multilayered video-editing process:
In post-production, Wegerer layers and synchronizes multiple video recordings.
The montage technique enables viewers to experience five seconds forward and backward in time, simultaneously both visually and acoustically.
This unique temporal manipulation creates a temporal loop, making movements appear fleeting, repetitive, and multilayered.
